SUMMARY OF FILM…(not in my point of view)

Critic’s opinion on the film when it first came out…

The overall reviews of the movie are still as they were when it first came out, people either loved the movie, thinking it was the greatest film of all time, or they hated it. After watching the movie for the first time in class, I had already made a mind set that I did not like the movie at all and was not going to give it a second chance. During class we watched roughly the first half hour of the film. My first general reaction to the film was that it was boring and pointless. I had no interest in watching the rest of the movie and as dreading writing a whole paper on it. To me, the music was very repetitive and I was lost within the first ten minutes. There was no conversation and I thought the apes were not convincing. The plot was boring and it was hard to follow the story line when there was finally conversation. I am a huge sci-fi fanatic and I was excited that we were watching a space movie, and was disappointed when I thought the movie was turning out to be a bust. Even with my teacher and my father backing the movie, saying it was one of the greatest movies of all time, I still had my doubts. MY NEW POINT OF VIEW…

Interview with Lynnell Knight, a fan of the movie…

Conclusion…

  1. Right now you're collecting information and starting to think about your opinion, which is fine. You'll probably want to reduce the section detailing all the awards or you won't have space left for an evaluation. Your opinions so far are valid, but the only reason I can follow them is because I've seen the film. Keep in mind that your reader might not have seen the film--or maybe hasn't seen it in a long time and has forgotten some things.

Once you determine your criteria, you want to pay special attention to scenes, dialogue, action, etc. that meet or fail your requirements--because that is the evidence you'll present to back up your opinion. You do need to explain the plot of the movie, but you don't need to provide a lengthy summary. Also, remember that you don't have to like everything to have an overall good opinion (just as you don't have to hate the whole thing to give it a thumbs down). Remember to cite your interview:

  2. ARIEL,

i like that you have gathered information to start writing your paper. i think it is interesting to see all the different awards the movie won, however, i think you should pick out the most outstanding of the awards and put them into your paper and mention that there were many others as well...

i like the fact that you are going to put in a summary of the film, but ithink you should rewrite one in your words, maybe based off of another one and add details from when you watched the film.

your initial opinion of the film is very bold.
you area little bit repetitive, but i think it gets th point across. make sure you add quotes to support your reasonings.

ALSO, i LOVE the fact that you have a personal interview, i think that is really awesome

i think that adding your new opinion is a great idea as well, i like the fact that although you thought the movie was boring, looking deeper into the film changd your oint of view..

    nice.

  3. Hey Ariel,

Yes our papers do look a lot alike! haha

I like that you have a lot of imformation present. It shows that you are trying to build a strong opinion on the film. I agree with Audrey when saying you should pick out a couple that show great achievement and focus more on those. That way, it will not seem as though you are writing "about" the film, but more "expressing" it. I am not sure if that makes sense.. I know what I want to say, but not sure how to word it. However, the interview idea is awesome! It will really add character to your paper. I like that you ended with a different opinion. I kind of felt the same way, though I am still iffy on the meaning. It's definitely a confusing movie!! Overall, you're paper looks to me like it will be a good one. :)
